The Greatest Show in The Universe

Overview

“Arts and sciences, all of which in the past were embraced by philosophy and animated by it with a unitary spirit, are, in our day, unnaturally separated and disjointed.” - Vico

Mission: The Starry MessengerⓇ aims to enrich the learning experience of elementary school students in Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics (S.T.E.A.M.), and literacy by making circus arts an engine for cognition, creativity, and communication.

Programs

"The function of art is to do more than to tell it like it is – it is to imagine what is possible."

– bell hooks

Research suggests that creative performance art (i.e., theatre/circus), when used in conjunction with other proven methods of scientific inquiry, is especially effective in enhancing students’ learning and retention of science between Kindergarten and grade six. The programs offered here incorporate a dramatic arts-based pedagogy that aligns with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and/or Pennsylvania Core Standards. In each program, the kinesthetics and props of circus arts serve as models in a reimagined portrayal of academic content.

Each program is adaptable for a broad range of venues and ages. Perfect for classrooms, libraries, community centers, and intimate theatres.

The Starry Messenger

"The Starry Messenger is truly the kind of compelling show that can spark lifelong learning and a love of science. Lindsay is a dedicated educator and a creative dynamo. Galileo would be proud."
